Powder Point Bridge Replacement Project MADOT Webpage

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has officially launched plans for the Powder Point Bridge Replacement Project in Duxbury—a major effort to modernize one of the South Shore’s most iconic and heavily used crossings. Spanning nearly half a mile across Duxbury Bay, the bridge is the only direct roadway connecting the town to Duxbury Beach, making it a critical piece of local infrastructure.

The project will fully replace the existing structure to meet current safety and design standards while preserving the historic character that makes the bridge such a landmark. From updated engineering to long-term resiliency improvements, this initiative is about ensuring safe, reliable access for residents, visitors, and emergency services for decades to come.

If you live, work, or spend time on the South Shore, this is a project worth following—both for its impact on daily access and its role in shaping the future of one of Massachusetts’ most unique coastal communities.
