Powder Point Bridge Repairs
The Town of Duxbury’s Department of Public Works has undertaken critical repairs to the Powder Point Bridge to address ongoing structural wear and ensure continued safe use of this historic crossing. As part of the work, crews are reinforcing key structural elements—including installing sister piles, bracing, and shimming in areas that have experienced deterioration over time.
To safely complete the repairs, the bridge has been fully closed to all traffic—vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists—during construction, with work expected to take approximately two to three months. This temporary closure highlights both the scale of the repairs and the ongoing challenges of maintaining a heavily used timber bridge in a harsh coastal environment.
These improvements are part of a broader effort to extend the life of the existing structure while longer-term replacement plans continue to develop. For residents, beachgoers, and anyone who relies on the bridge, staying informed on these updates is key as the town works to balance preservation, safety, and future infrastructure needs.
